Scheduling a Brit

The brit is held on the eighth day of life. A brit should be held during daytime. A brit is held even on a Sabbath or Jewish holiday, assuming that the birth was not by caesarean section and a qualified Mohel is available within walking distance of the family home. Otherwise it should be postponed to the next non-Shabbat or non-Festival day. The brit is also postponed if the baby weighs less than five pounds. The baby's medical eligibility for circumcision should be determined by his pediatrician. The time of the brit is determined according to the mutual convenience and wishes of the family and Rabbi Cooper.
